Use Case Diagrams and Business Process Modeling in Automated Banking Systems

Overview

This paper analyzes the application of use case diagrams in modeling ATM business processes, identifying five major operational segments and four key agents within the system. It distinguishes between business process models and use case diagrams, explaining how each represents different aspects of automated banking operations and user interactions.

Business Process Modeling

The Use Case Diagram contains specific information revolving around money flow in an ATM. There are five major segments in the diagram, namely, withdraw cash, transfer funds, validate users, deposit funds, and refill the machine. There are four agents responsible for the factors too, namely bank customer, the cashier, maintenance person, and the bank itself. The bank customer can either withdraw cash from the bank, transfer money, or deposit funds, including validating the user. The cashier helps the bank customer to deposit cash in the bank as well as verifying the bank user. The maintenance person helps in refilling the ATM to keep the cycle complete. The main difference between a business model and Use Case diagram is that the former is active throughout and its operations maintained with the same urgency of operations as opposed to a business model whose processes are sometimes slowed down or sped up (Allweyer 2016.).

Classmate Response

A Use Case Diagram is a representation of how a user interacts with an automated machine as well as all the user interfaces the machine has (Seidl et al. 2015). It identifies the different types of users in the system and the use cases, just like in the provided ATM diagram. A bank customer in an ATM interacts with varying cases of use that help him or her deposit or withdraw funds. The maintenance agent ensures that the cash in the machine is kept at equilibrium at all times.
