Staffing Model Optimization: Efficiency Enhancement through Data-Driven Analysis and Budget Management
Overview
This paper presents a case study of implementing a staffing model to enhance human resources efficiency and reduce organizational costs. The author analyzes staffing requirements using a moves-per-hour methodology, discovers overstaffing issues, and proposes incentive-based solutions supported by Excel-based data analysis and historical trend visualization.
What this coursework covers
- Introduction to staffing challenges and model selection based on moves per hour methodology
- Data collection process including invoices and productivity reports spanning two years with budget analysis
- Analysis findings revealing four excess switchers and implementation of proposed incentives with ongoing model monitoring

One of the most prevalent challenges in human resources is finding effective ways that can enhance efficiency in staffing models. In order to address the challenge, there is a need to review the fundamental modeling applied in developing staffing estimates. There is a need to present diverse comprehensive studies and key considerations. In the scenario, I selected a model appropriate for the staffing requirements within the organizational context. The model chosen was moves per hour with total moves per day to find the staffing needs. The accessorial budget was deleveraged by $475,000. The amount spent was 2,375,000 with actual budget being $1.9 million.
After collecting the data, I pulled the invoices for the period of two years, in addition to the productivity reports. This was done to get a realistic picture of the staffing requirements within the organization. The aim was to understand the particular need of the organization human resource and propose incentives to address these through the model. I created an excel spreadsheet as the primary tool for analyzing and visualizing the collected data. Excel is a powerful tool that can be used to develop different models and approaches to data analysis to ensure effectiveness and timeliness.
The model was verified in the excel file, I then created rows and columns to represent staffing, invoiced amount, cross-referencing the number of moves performed, fuel used, and duration of each move for each fiscal week.
