Solving and Applying Managerial Economic Tools

Managerial Economics applies principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics in solving business problems and making decisions. These principles apply economic theories to assist in solving internal challenges in an organization. Any business relies on managerial economics to forecast the business's future and make rational investment decisions (Rubin & Dnes, 2010). Managerial Economics requires creative skills, and hence certain economic principles, criteria, and processes are applied in solving problems in an organization. In microeconomics, only internal challenges that affect the organization. However, in macroeconomics, the management has to consider the external business environment. Managers use different managerial economic approaches, depending on the company’s primary focus. Depending on the nature of an organization, managers could prioritize either satisfying customers or increasing production. Therefore, there are different types of managerial economics, including liberal, normative, and radical management. The progressive approach considers democracy and the rights of individuals in making decisions.

The normative approach emphasizes a more practical model that involves the management of cost, product, promotion, and designs. However, a radical approach demands precise techniques for solving problems in an organization. This approach is applied in organizations whose focus is satisfying the needs of their customers and not primarily to accrue profits. Principles of managerial economics are categorized into decision-making principles, how people interact, and how the economy works. Economic theory helps managers to acquire ideas on how to plan the business and make educated decisions (Bolila, 2019).
