How Regulation and Cooperation on a Global Scale Is Problematic
With the advent of the digital region, it is becoming increasingly difficult to enforce universal regulations. The challenges in regulation also lead to poor cooperation, which is also detrimental for businesses. When nations have a stable and democratic environment, it is ideal for a successful business operation. However, many global companies are contributing to poor democracy within nations. Corporations are known to contribute negatively to democracy. Due to the economic wherewithal they possess, they can easily manipulate policies and forego international trade regulation to achieve their ends. While many companies depend on the freedom enjoyed through democracy, they also act in bad a=faith and undermine the institutions that safeguard their rights to do business across international borders.
Regulation and stable cooperation are impossible globally because of the systematic bureaucracies that have infiltrated the governance system. Many ills, such as money laundering and adhering to trade sanctions, are ignored. Moreover, corporations play a significant part when it comes to stewardship in matters of democracy.
In order to address the challenge of poor regulation and cooperation between multinational companies, governments, and non-governmental organizations, there is a need for all parties to play active roles in enhancing cooperation and adhering to a mutual agreement about trade. It is also important to provide funding for public institutions and promote global regulation and cooperation research. This will ensure that issues related to trade experienced across the world are addressed using evidence-based solutions.
