Privatization: A Comparative Analysis of the Royal Mail Group (UK) and Ontario Hydro One (Canada)
Thesis Statement
Given the growing global population and the added dynamics of globalization, privatization of public services and institutions is no longer a solution to the increasing demand for public services.
Paragraph 1
Though privatization was deemed to be a solution to how governments can effectively offer public services, recent years have seen several governments begin to de-privatize. This is a sounding alarm for most governments, and they should rethink the future of public services. To support the thesis above, this paper will compare and contrast the privatization of the Royal Mail Group (UK) and Canada's Ontario Hydro one. At the onset, privatization seeks to ease the ease with which the public can access government services.
Paragraph 2
One similarity between these two entities is that their privatization was motivated by the need to serve the public (interest) better. For a long time, it has been believed that the private sector can offer these services more efficiently than the government. UK’s Royal Mail Group is the country’s pre-eminent delivery company providing parcel and letter delivery services in more than 44 countries around the world. Its privatization began in 2013 and ended in 2015. In Canada, Ontario Hydro One in November 2015 under Premier Kathleen Wynne and by December 2017, over 53% of stake had been sold by the province.
