People have more often focused on selecting brands and purchase the most expensive brand of the desired product. Minimalists try to eliminate such perceptions to help save the extra expense that comes with brand selection. Minimalists are guided with the question of why brand matters when the end goal is to get the products that will serve the purpose.
Non-minimalists spend almost 70% of their wages on items that do not have any significant impacts on their lifestyle. Minimalists save up to 75% of the careless spending non-minimalists have proven to incur on their wage every salaried month (Becker, n.p).
My sister downsized from a Toyota V8, which used to make her spend a lot of fuel consumption to a Toyota Harrier model, which is otherwise cost-effective and cheaper to maintain. Her worries were influenced by the fact that she needed to get her daughter to a better school, which she could not afford. However, she was determined to give her child the best and opted to cut down on her spending in whichever means possible as recommended by Millburn and Ryan (30).
I have a friend who drinks and smokes a lot. He smokes an entire packet of cigarettes during the day and half of it at night. He drinks every evening after coming from work. Such habits are senseless because they have no meaning in his life, but he fails to recognize that he is spending on unnecessary things in his life.
