IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice Review

The Institute of Management Accounting (IMA) has been a devoted organization in ensuring the highest level of ethical standards are adopted by organizations across the globe in business practices. It advocates for this amongst its members as well as the profession at large. It took a bold step in its quest for the best ethical practices in the accounting and management by developing its first written code of ethic; Standard of Ethical Conduct of Management Accountants. In the wake of the global financial scandal and increased need for more direct ethical procedures, IMA applied new guidelines to better reflect the ethical climate of the time. The process led to the IMA Statement of Ethical Professional Practice which tasked every member with the responsibility to commit themselves to the highest ethical behavior.

Upon consideration of the many changes in the business regulatory environment, inclusive of the globalization of the commerce and the management accounting profession, IMA was determined to issue another more straightforward statement recognized as the statement on management accounting. This was meant to make the preceding statement more concise, simple to comprehend and apply (Braun &Tietz, 2018). It reflects the global scope of management accounting. It also requires the IMA members to work towards achieving positive ethical culture in their various organizations and to ensure the integrity of the profession above individual interests.
