Executive Summary: Human Resource Management and Talent Development
The drive towards a healthcare outcomes model that focuses on long-term wellness is compelling Vila Health to redesign its recruitment, retention, and talent development processes. In this transition, this executive summary presents evidence-based human resource (HR) practices, expectations of accountability, leadership approaches, collaborative interventions, and the role of performance appraisals.
A people-based organization would ensure that its HR systems are aligned with its vision, mission, culture, and strategy. Strategic workforce planning based on clinical outcome goals and structured onboarding, continuous learning, total rewards based on equity, and inclusive engagement are best practices (Kaufman, 2020). Values-based hiring and behavioral interviewing should be used to recruit individuals who can serve as role models of wellness-oriented care at Vila Health. Other recommendations include posting a clear list of employee values, integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals into talent metrics, and conducting stay interviews to capture engagement data before turnover occurs (SHRM, 2022).
The shift of strategy into action is referred to as accountability. The most appropriate practices in healthcare HR include written job descriptions, a retention scorecard, leader competencies, and growth at all levels (West et al., 2020). The scores on engagement and clinical/financial outcomes are the responsibility of the managers of the caregiver model at Cleveland Clinic, which, in turn, have been linked to better patient experience and retention (West et al., 2020).
