Individuals who transition suddenly to a remote work environment may encounter several challenges. These challenges include creating a workspace that is comfortable, distraction-free, and suitable for their work needs. They may also have to find effective ways to communicate remotely with colleagues and team members, ensuring clear and frequent communication. Another potential challenge is ensuring they have the necessary equipment, such as a computer, high-speed internet, software tools, and other office supplies (Toniolo-Barrios & Pitt, 2021). Adapting to new ways of working, such as managing time and prioritizing tasks without the structure of an office environment, is also a challenge.
While remote work has benefits, including flexibility, the ability to work from anywhere, and the opportunity to tailor work around other life obligations, it also has potential drawbacks. Social isolation, missing out on social interactions and opportunities for collaboration with colleagues, can lead to feelings of loneliness or burnout. Limited visibility is also a potential drawback, as remote employees may struggle to remain visible and heard (Toniolo-Barrios & Pitt, 2021). Difficulty separating work and personal life is another potential drawback, as it can be challenging to create boundaries between personal and professional life when working remotely.
The priority of working in a hybrid workplace would depend on individual preferences and job roles. Some individuals might prefer to work remotely, while others might enjoy the structure and social interactions of the office environment.
