Study materials from topic 1-5 provide a clear guideline on the application of servant leadership in the workplace, as part of service effort, a volunteer or personal life of an individual. I learned several characteristics that work jointly in providing the functionality of servant leadership. The adoption of servant leadership approaches on decisions of individuals to make profits for their organizations while nurturing the spirits of its employees. Below is a summary of things that I learned from the topics and my opinion on whether I would apply servant leadership in the same manner.
In summary, the topics revealed that servant leadership focuses on the empowerment and development of individuals by holding them responsible for various activities that they engage in. Empowerment enables servant-leaders to acknowledge the strengths and talents of employees. Also, the aspect of humility stood out as the materials indicated that servant leaders need to acknowledge that there are employees who may be more experienced and knowledgeable than them (Sipe & Frick, 2015). This helps in fostering dependence of their knowledge when the need arises to help in the development of an organization. Besides, authenticity is an important element of servant leadership that one may incorporate in a workplace since it enables employees to be themselves by creating a welcoming and encouraging environment. I also learned that one should consider interpersonal acceptance as it enables them to understand the motivations and feelings of others (Chiniara & Bentein, 2016).
