Analyzing Stockholders' Equity
Stockholders equity entails remaining assets in a company that is available to shareholders after settling all liabilities. This is usually determined as the difference between the total assets of a company and its liabilities. Moreover, it can also be computed as the total assets of the company minus its liabilities. Usually, the stockholders’ equity includes common stock, retained earnings, as well as treasury stock. Through an analysis of the stockholders’ equity, the funds retained within an establishment can be determined.
The information presented in the balance sheet shows that the Coca-Cola company has diverse types of stocks. First, the company has common stock valued at $0.25 each, which gives a total value of $1,760 million. Common stocks usually offer stockholders rights to vote as well as profit from the capital appreciation and dividends. The currently issued shares in joint stock are 7,040 shares with authorized shares of 11,200. Notably, the balance also shows that treasury shares refer to the reacquired stocks purchased from stockholders. This decreases the total amount of outstanding shares from the market. The outstanding treasury shares are 2,738, while the value of treasury stocks is $52,016 million.
Treasury stocks arise from the outstanding stocks that have been repurchased and are held by the firm. The treasury stocks usually minimize the total shareholders' equity on the company balance sheet.
