Analysis of the Case: Alexa: A Pandora’s Box of Risks

Digital voice assistants such as Siri for Apple Inc. and Alexa for Amazon have been widely used in most technology companies. For instance, the Amazon Company in 2014 implemented its digital voice assistant known as “Alexa.” Such enabled Amazon to succeed in establishing a new market for its technology, although, after some time, the company developed Alexa with new functions and features. Before, Alexa would answer questions and help in creating a grocery list, operating the alarm clock, and play music. Also, Alexa would communicate with other websites and devices and had signal processing tools that assisted in eliminating the TV and music background noises. Amazon developed Alexa in numerous ways., and after launching the Echo successfully, the company collaborated with other firms to create electrical items such as thermostats, refrigerators, and cars with in-built Alexa.

As an “Outside Consultant, I have identified that the company experiences problems with the use of Alexa that emanate from managing data, and how private and secure Alexa is to its users. As the company continues to develop Alexa, it will need to update its policy more often to maintain its market base and advance its customer’s experience. Other problems experienced by the company include interfering with government rules to keep its security and policy, which also raises concerns regarding its corporate social responsibility and ethical policy related to its users.
