Dear Madam,
RE: Public Health Risks of Garbage and Littering in West Bronx
In the last 11 months, local healthcare facilities recorded an increase in mosquitoes and mosquito bites within the residential zones. While no significant medical emergencies arise from the case, the risks are many, and we must install prevention measures before the issue burgeons into a crisis.
Members of the association's research team established that the problem is linked to the reckless garbage disposal and littering within the area. Garbage and litter clog drainage systems, providing breeding areas for mosquitoes. Pregnant women and children are the most vulnerable and will be adversely affected if there is no prompt action. Garbage and litter accumulation can also lead to an outbreak of cholera outbreak, considering that many food joints operate in the area.
We are addressing the issue to you because of your position as a member of the New York City Council and co-chair of the women’s caucus of the council, where similar issues are raised and addressed. Acknowledging your efforts in advocating for affordable housing, gender equity, and economic equity, we again appeal to consider the problem and initiate actions to clean and sanitize all public areas. We also request support for our community education programs.
The association has a program to educate people on the health risks associated with reckless garbage disposal. However, efforts are required, and you are well-positioned to provide the needed assistance.
