Discussion 2 Unit 3

For decades, HIV/AIDS has affected many people across the globes. Lives of families and economies have been destabilized due to the emergence of this menace. The spread of STIs across California has stressed the public health system. Health workers are an important resource in promoting health across the community. The healthcare inequities resulting from poor health education and spread of STIs are majorly caused by shortage of healthcare workers as well as negligence. Therefore, in order to enhance safe sex and reduce cases of STIs infections, health workers must be proactive in community education and ensure that all members are empowered. Those who oppose condom use must be educated on the benefits of safe sex and ensure that all people have access to safe condoms. Beliefs and traditions that discourage people from using condoms must be discouraged. In order to further reduce spread of STIs, healthcare professionals can spread condoms, health education brochures, and massive awareness campaigns that will go a long way in reducing new cases of STI infections (ACOG, n.d.).
