Abstract

Wireless wearables are minute electronic devices fitted with sensors and have an ability to perform like computers. In healthcare, these devices play an important role. They can monitor, analyze, and heal individuals. The wearable devices include watches, wristbands, head worn devices, and others that can be worn on certain body parts. They are major electronics manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung. These devices are fitted with enabling technologies such as sensors, computerized systems, and smart mobile abilities. They can be connected to a network and can monitor the movement of the body, motion of sensors, and continuous real-time recording of data. Therefore, they are accurate and precise in reporting conditions of patient in healthcare. Devices as optical sensors are utilized to monitor heart rate and have a very high accuracy for more than 15 minutes. On the other hand, wearables like biosensors have very low response time, high sensitivity, and require low cost and power to operate. Other type of sensors that are used in the medical field include sweat sensors and haptics.

Wireless technologies are also used in wearables. There technologies assist in communication and sharing of information. Near field communication (NFC) work best for wearables requiring low power consumption. They involve the transfer of tiny amounts of data over short period of time, which is through the touching of two devices. Other wireless technologies used in wearables include Bluetooth and ANT. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is an easier implement and low-cost.
