Why Credibility is the Foundation of Leadership

Credibility refers to the quality of people to believe and trust you. As a leader, we always should be credible. In the video, the speaker says that a leader always has followers who see certain qualities they like in the person before following him (TEDx Talks, 2015). These qualities contribute to credibility as people would not want to be associated with a person who is not honest and trustworthy. Credibility also means that a leader stands his ground by taking a side in an argument or scenario and defending it without wavering. He does this without minding whether people are following him or against him. It means the leader believes in his stand and knows it is the right thing to do.

Honesty, confidence, and forward-looking are the fundamental qualities we often look for in a leader (TEDx Talks, 2015). They are among the pillars of communication the build credibility in a person. An honest leader will always discharge his duties without prejudice. At the same time, confidence inspires them to discharge the designated duties without fear. Forward-looking is a binder of honesty and confidence because it is the steering wheel that propels a leader to be confident and honest. These are the essential qualities of a credible leader. We have to believe in the message to believe in the messenger.
