The dream of every graduating nurse practitioner (NP) is becoming a full nurse and joining the profession and contributing to its improvement. Despite the relative inexperience and numerous challenges for new nurses, they have a role in supporting the profession. In this sense, the paper will discuss some of the ways graduating nurses can help improve healthcare systems.

Although newly graduated nurses have challenges during their first year in the profession, they can still contribute to its improvement. To begin with, the newly graduated nurses can bring new knowledge into the health care system. Today, nursing students are subjected to new techniques, approaches, and technologies that were not present in the past years (Murray‐Parahi et al., 2016). As a result, newly graduated nurses can support the profession by integrating new knowledge and techniques to enhance patient care. The advancement of technologies in nursing has led to the introduction of techniques and equipment which are not familiar to some of the older nurses (Murray‐Parahi et al., 2016).

The new graduate nurses have the role of helping health care organizations integrate new approaches and technologies. Another way for newly graduated nurses to support the profession is by reducing the current nursing shortage in the U.S. One of the challenges facing most healthcare organizations is the lack of adequate nurses to enhance high-quality patient care (Haddad & Toney-Butler, 2019).
