Organizational Change and Ethical-Legal Influences in Advanced Practice Nursing Case Study

Ethics and legal implications govern the health sector, like other sectors. Every practitioner in the industry is supposed to adhere to their guiding rules, terms, and conditions for operations to run smoothly. The case study, however, indicates that different practitioners violated health sector ethics.

Medical Assistant

A medical assistant helps in keeping the records of the patient, answering calls from patients, and renewing prescriptions for patients, among others. He or she is expected to honestly keep the record and respect the patient’s privacy from the public, but members of the group are allowed to access files depending on the privileges they have. A medical assistant should always respect the profession. Every patient should be treated equally irrespectively of their social class, gender, or any other forms ("Ethics of Medical Assisting", 2020). Stephanie broke some of these ethics. She should have shared information about the patient with me as a family nurse practitioner. It helps in tracking the progress of the patient.

Nurse practitioner

A nurse has direct contact with the patient in terms of their care. Nurses prescribe medicine as well as developing procedures for quality assurance. According to the case study, I should know about Mrs Smith’s call and the prescription she got. A nurse diagnoses the patient, prescribes medicine, and keeps records (DeNisco, 2019).
