Nursing Management During Postpartum Period
Postnatal care is usually administered to mothers and their newborns immediately after birth. The primary objective of setting postnatal care is to avert emotional, physical, and other long-term problems. Vivian is having the challenge of bonding with the baby and breastfeeding. Firstly, it is critical to run a background check for Vivian. A background check will help understand her emotional problems and whether other people have the same issue in the family (Belleza, 2021). The history of Vivian in terms of giving birth is complicated, and thus, it is significant to consider it too. Combining background information and a delivery report will help understand the new mother's emotional problems.
Secondly, assess the grasping ability of the patient to determine if she can process information quickly. She has just had a surgical procedure which can be traumatizing and stressful at some point. Since she lost her first baby when she was a teenager (age 16), it is critical to engage her and help overcome the stress (Belleza, 2021). The aspect of bonding is based on emotions. Handling the mother's emotions will create room for breastfeeding hence bonding. Thirdly, supporting Vivian to heal the body will be crucial towards healing them emotionally and physically. Notably, emotions control a large part of bonding and may significantly impact the child and the mother (Ambales et al., 2015). Therefore, it is critical to managing Vivian's behaviors emotional problems.
