Imaginative Contemplation
Jesus’ healing of the hemorrhaging woman is one of the most emotive actions in the Gospel. I am particularly drawn by the events surrounding the miracle, especially how the woman encountered Jesus. I mainly identify with the woman in this scene. The events that happened to lead to her healing were outstanding. Life is challenging, and sometimes, I feel ashamed to share with anyone. I long for miracles and change of situation, but the shame and humiliation from the public always keep me from confessing. The scene is a message from God concerning my challenges and struggles. I feel revived and hopeful because of the events that led to the woman’s healing.
Under Jewish laws, the bleeding made her a social pariah. Everything she touched was unclean. Therefore, she suffered an unyielding psychological, spiritual, social, and physical weariness. She lived in a constant state of uncleanliness and distress. Having endured difficulties and disappointments from society, the woman decided to seek Jesus’ healing. Reports about Jesus’s power had spread across the country, and the woman believed. There was no way to explain her issue or request assistance. The woman cannot openly confront Jesus or throw herself at his feet because she was unclean. Since she was known, people would frown at her for touching Jesus. People avoided making physical contact with her.
When she resolved to seek Jesus’s help, she hid herself to get closer to Jesus.
