In the United States (U.S.) and most parts of the world, the healthcare sector is characterized by significant disparities for vulnerable populations. There are several populations considered to be vulnerable due to the inability to access health care services. According to De Chesnay (2008), the health and healthcare issues that face vulnerable populations are exacerbated by several social factors. One of the factors that make populations vulnerable is their geographical communities and areas. In most cases, people living in rural areas face problems accessing quality health care compared to the general population (De Chesnay, 2008). This is because most people living in rural areas suffer from geographical marginalization, low socio-economic status, and lack of well-paying jobs (De Chesnay, 2008). Therefore, geographical factors play an essential role in promoting health vulnerabilities among populations.

I tend to encounter a different variety of cultures during my professional nursing practice. One of the most recent aspects related to culture is language barrier. I have recently offered services to patients whose communication was hampered by language barriers but was resolved through a colleague who acted as the interpreter. Squires (2018) states that language barrier is one of the cultural factors that limit the provider-patient relationship. Furthermore, recently, I have encountered patients who are unwilling to receive certain health services due to their cultural and religious beliefs. Thus, providing them will the necessary healthcare services is challenging for most practitioners.
