Federal Reserve Policy Modifications and Economic Recovery: Analysis of Post-COVID Monetary Tools and Limitations
Overview
This paper analyzes the Federal Reserve's recent policy modifications implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and their limited effectiveness in stimulating economic growth. The author argues that while the Fed's new framework targeting inflation and extended low interest rates represents a significant structural change, these tools operate at diminishing returns and cannot adequately address current economic challenges given existing unemployment rates and market constraints.

Topical Analysis
The Federal Reserve recently decided to codify modifications to its policy structure to attain high inflation periods. Unfortunately, the current rate of unemployment is 10%, and therefore, policymakers do not expect that the policy changes will boost economic growth. The COVID 19 pandemic has devastated the vast swaths of commerce. The regress of the current crisis portrays that the central bank will be required to depend on tools that boost the economy, although they might be less potent than before. Since March 2020, the federal government has portrayed its ability to obviate financial challenges by implementing newer emergency frameworks (Timiraos 1). The Fed instigated two significant modifications. For instance, it focuses on increasing inflation by indicating that the central bank should implement the previous misses of the 2% target and compensate them with moderately higher inflation periods. Moreover, the officials cannot raise interest rates because the unemployment rates are below a level that would reduce pressure prices. As a result, the fed officials have agreed on implementing the implemented framework during the 1970s to recede inflation.
The Federal’s new goal is significant. However, it will not effectively help resuscitate the economy because the federal has already reached a period of spontaneous decreasing returns. For instance, the United States economist indicated that the process to re-examine the Federal’s strategy denotes success as it showcases how the investors in the country expected Fed to react to a recession before the economic shock caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
