Evidence-Based Practice

Integrating evidence from various credible studies and meticulously implementing the best findings to facilitate patients' care and treatment is evidence-based practice (EBP). EBP has redefined patient care, and modern care nowadays implements it while providing treatment. EBP has both advantages and disadvantages known to caregivers.

One of the advantages of EBP is its ability to evolve and personalize patient care and reduce costs related to health care. In essence, EBP has done a lot to advance healthcare, resulting in every care method to be based on the best available evidence. This will often lead to establishing better patient care and minimizing associated with providing healthcare (Mackey & Bassendowski, 2017). Secondly, EBP has enhanced the expertise of healthcare professionals. This is because EBP comes with credible evidence from multiple findings that equip these professionals with the appropriate knowledge in their field.

On the contrary, EBP has its set of disadvantages. Sometimes, practitioners may be required to develop a new set of skills while seeking and appraising new evidence, and this takes significant time and effort. In the absence of this new set of skills, practitioners are prone to confirmation bias- a phenomenon that only supports personal experience and judgment (Mackey & Bassendowski, 2017). Often, lack of new skills will create problems for EBP.

Secondly, there can be a shortage of evidence, common sense oversight, and the time duration needed to find credible evidence.
