Environmental Analysis

The briefing report is an environmental analysis of Nor’easter Medical Centre, a 75-bed community hospital (nonprofit) in Maine with multiple counties receiving emergency, primary and specialty care, acute inpatient, diagnostic, and surgical services (around 28,000 patients annually, inpatient utilization 60-70 beds, more frequent after the pandemic). The mission of the hospital involves providing ongoing advancement of the community health, vision, which aims at pursuing the highest quality of health care excellence, and values, which are compassion, integrity, respect, safety and accountability (Capella University, 2023). The challenges facing the post-pandemic period are increasing patient volumes, revenue losses, inflation, clinical staff burnout, and a tense workforce despite staffing, technology, and customer service rebuilding activities.

In this report, the 2026 American Hospital Association (AHA) Environmental Scan workforce factor has been used, which has identified ongoing shortages, turnover, vacancy rates, burnout, clinician wellbeing issues, and employment growth projections in light of increased demand (AHA, 2026). The aim is to compare internal and external problems concerning the workforce, point out 2-3 critical problems through the analysis, evaluate the effect on organizational development, and prescribe evidence-based solutions to the CEO that can help in long-term recovery and mission re-alignment.
