Discipline and Time Management

Unlike on-ground classrooms, online students must feel comfortable and responsible for the learning environment they acquire. Online students are far more likely to face more challenges than on-ground students because of the reliability of resources they require to participate in virtual classroom activities effectively. Online students are bound to face frustrations that are often out of their control. Examples of common challenges include sudden power outages, crashing of ISP servers, poor internet connection, computer breakdowns, and home-based frustrations like lack of privacy.

Any successful online student must take responsibility for the learning process. Therefore, school work should be at the top of the list of priorities, especially at home where there can be many genuine distractions like taking care of a child or accommodating a visitor. It also implies that the student should be strictly goal-oriented to avoid unnecessary destructions easily. Further, using online resources from home also means easy access to social media, gaming, and entertainment sites, destroying online students. Additionally, the students are bound to face netiquette problems that can be easy as destructive.

Given the strict deadlines and schedules that should be met in the college educational process, the level of self-discipline and self-responsibility required can easily be marred by some of the mentioned challenges. Students who are disciplined understand these challenges, know how to navigate them, and understand that it does not mean education stops when something is out of their control.
