Coal is Worse for The Environment Than Gas
Overview
This essay argues that coal is more environmentally harmful than natural gas as an energy source. The paper compares emission rates, energy efficiency, and toxin composition between the two fossil fuels, concluding that gas is a preferable bridge fuel with lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduced environmental impact.
What this essay covers
- Introduction establishing the debate between coal and gas as fossil fuel alternatives
- Comparison of carbon emissions and greenhouse gas production between coal and gas
- Analysis of energy output versus emissions and toxin composition in coal versus gas
- Conclusion summarizing why coal presents greater environmental risks

Coal is Worse for The Environment Than Gas
The negative impacts of fossil fuels have caused a debate between stakeholders in the environmental sector. While the issue centers on eliminating unclean energy, people disregard the degree of environmental harm arising from coal against that of gas. It is essential to encourage fossil fuel use with minimal ecological impacts as people search for reliable, clean energy sources. While greenhouse gases are emitted by coal and gas combustion, understanding the rates of emissions enables policymakers and stakeholders to choose the best alternative. The adverse effects arising from coal production, usage, and emissions make it more harmful to the environment than gas.
Many people consider gas as a bridge fuel that reduces emissions and tames adverse impacts on the environment. The global warming impacts associated with gas are much lower compared to coal effects. It is noted that gas emits about 60 percent less carbon than coal, proof that it is a better fuel for the environment (“Environmental Impacts of Natural Gas”). There is more carbon content in coal that increases the number of emissions when a unit is burnt. The burning of coal releases more greenhouse gases, the primary cause of global warming. The consequence is a plethora of adverse environmental impacts resulting from global warming and its associated occurrences.
Another reason making coal worse for the environment is the amount of energy it produces per unit.
