Dreamgirls
Dreamgirls is a musical drama film that was released in the year 2006. It stars Jennifer Hudson as Effie White, Danny Glover as Marty Madison, Jamie Fox as Curtis Taylor, Beyonce Knowles as Deena Jones, Anika Noni Rose as Lorrell Robinson, Keith Robinson as C.C. White, Eddie Murphy as James among others. The central theme of this film is betrayal, money, and exploitation. Characters are more than willing to sell their souls to become successful. Curtis Taylor Jr, a talent manager who formerly was a car salesperson, manipulates people for his gain and anybody who becomes a barrier to his ambition he teaches him or her lesson (Condon, 2006)
Sound is used effectively in this film to compliment dialogue. For example, the sounds of female shoes while on stage can be heard, which is diegetic. Sound effects have perfectly been used to communicate sub-themes like an actor being serious on something. Shallow depth of field is also well used where there are two scenes that audiences need to see at the same time audiences do not miss a scene. Randy Spendlove and Matt Sullivan blended different song genres like pop and R&B to reflect its time of production as well as ensuring the film lives on to the next generation (Condon, 2006).
The acting part was well organized. Every character got a role that perfectly fits them as well as getting contented with the payment allocated to that role.
