Presidential Agenda: Abortion
Abortion has excited interesting mora and legal debates globally because it deals with human life. Different presidents in the US have held different stands and implemented policies in line with what they believe is the best way to handle the abortion issue. This essay discusses abortion under presidents George Bush, Barrack Obama, and Donald Trump.
President Donald Trump is entirely against abortion. The first two years of his presidency saw him reinstated the Mexico City Policy that banned non-governmental organizations funded by the federal state from promoting any abortion activities or procuring abortion to people (Freiburger, 2019). NGOs that went against the policy would lose their funding. Trump said that he was standing up for all Americans, including those not yet born.
President Obama held a different opinion from President Trump. He held that women should have the freedom and right to terminate their pregnancy provided they follow safe and legal ways. During his term, he withdrew the Mexico City Policy enacted by his predecessor, George Bush. This means that NGOs who practiced and promoted abortion enjoyed constitutional protection. Obama promoted abortion through Obamacare by appointing pro-abortion judges (Bilger, 2018). He also forced taxpayers to fund groups that gave abortion services to other nations.
During his tenure as the American President, George W. Bush supported a constitutional amendment to make abortion illegal except for abortion due to incest, rape, and the mother's life.
