Passionate Vs. Prudent love in Persuasion by Jane Austen

Love is the state of having a strong, compassionate, and emotional attraction towards someone or something. Love may involve a strong affection or sexual desire towards another person. In the past, love was not considered an essential aspect of marriage. Parents would choose suitors and marriage partners for their sons and daughters. It was believed that their love would grow in marriage. In the contemporary world, love has been portrayed as a mixture of romance and the ability to choose a life partner. This raises an important question. Which is the ideal kind of love? Should love be passionate or prudent?

Passionate love is the kind of love where the involved partners color their love with intense romantic moments. Passionate lovers are more concerned with their desire to be close to each other and spent time in ecstatic moments. Prudent love is a strong feeling of affection towards someone based on the knowledge of having similar future objectives. It involves falling in love but within the limits of reasoning and self-discipline in handling the relationship. In the text, “Persuasion," Jane Austen creates a picture of love in both a poetic form and with prudence. Several characters have been used in the book to provide a clear insight into what love should entail.

In modern society, it is always advised to fall in love with a person you have a strong emotional attraction towards.
