Discussion
Last week, I walked into a restaurant and initiated a conversation with a stranger. His name was Rose, an African American female, and a lesbian. We started a conversation about homosexual rights and the stigma they were undergoing in America. While she was supporting the legalization of homosexual relationships, I argued that it was sinful and unbiblical. Her cultural group was homosexual, while my cultural group was Christian. According to Christian beliefs, it is sinful to engage in any sexual relationship with someone of the same gender. On the other hand, Rose believed that everyone has a right to relate with whomever they liked. It was within her rights to choose a sexual partner of the same sex.
Another difference that emerged during the conversation was whether homosexuals would go to hell after death. She believed that she was righteous and was within her rights to do whatever she likes with her body. However, I argued that it was wrong for people to engage in homosexuality are rebelling against God. This was a contentious issue between us and led to a prolonged exchange. I tried to argue with biblical evidence that homosexuality was sinful. On the other hand, she argued that Christians were homophobic and disregarded the rights of others to choose.
Through the exchange, I exhibited a demeanor that was less considerate of Rose’s feelings. I could have been more objective and considerate of her feelings and perspectives.
