Support Plan

This project aims to create a structured Peer-Led Mental Health Support Network in an urban hospital. The program will add certified peer support specialists to the existing mental health team, allowing them to offer non-clinical support based on their own lived experience to help patients recover.

All healthcare workers involved in mental health care will receive training. The training will cover peer support basics, trauma-informed care, setting healthy boundaries, supervision, and how to work well with peer specialists (Morales & Thomas, 2026). Easy-to-understand materials such as pamphlets, short videos, brochures, and online resources will be created. These materials will help staff, patients, and families understand the network and its benefits.

Further, the project will use a multi-disciplinary team. A peer champion and an implementation lead will guide the work. Other key members include mental health leaders, clinical staff, peer specialists, IT support, and hospital administrators. In the beginning, special meetings will be held to get everyone’s support and answer their questions.

Hospital leadership must first receive a clear implementation plan. The mental health team and other stakeholders need to stay involved from start to finish (Gillard et al., 2024). This helps meet the needs of patients and staff, reduces stress for clinicians, and improves care quality by using the power of lived experience.

All team members will get regular updates about the project benefits, challenges, and results. Workshops, seminars, and meetings will help build trust and teamwork.
