How Technology Is Used to Gather Patient Information
Technology has helped improve health care outcomes and practices significantly. The use of various technological innovations such as data mining assists health practitioners gather health patterns to predict outcomes certain diseases in future. Currently, many organizations depend on technology to collect patient information. This information is used in conducting research with the aim of improving understanding of the whole situation of an area of interest and helps build a foundation for decision-making.
There are different technologies used in collecting patient information. For example, clinical decision support technology provides health practitioners with patient-specific data. The data collected using decision support helps improve decision-making about a particular situation that may arise. The clinical decision support is accompanied by tools that include notifications, reminders, clinical guidelines, patients' clinical summaries, and alert tools. These tools make it easier for health workers to gather and follow up on their care since all the required information is available.
Hand-off and electronic sign-out tools help health caregivers communicate with each other or pass patient information or data from health caregivers to the family or the patient to ensure continuity of patient care and safety. Since these tools help pass out information from one health caregiver to another, changing helps reduce errors, omissions, and handover time when passing the information.
The use of barcode medication administration systems ensures that patients receive proper treatment at the right time.
