Introduction
There is an upward surge of immigrants migrating into the United States (US) in the current era, coming from different parts of the world. Interestingly, the US is a multiracial nation, comprising of other races and cultures in its composition. The Latinos, for instance, are immigrants coming into the US from Mexico seeking "greener pastures, in America. Greener pastures in this context imply rewarding economic opportunities, a chance to reunite with family members, and escaping political and religious persecution back at home. Over the years, Latino immigrants' immigration has sparked controversies among various quotas, for example, in the US political arena. In the run to his election, Donald Trump, former USA President, promised to limit immigrants' number coming into the US. Trump went further to propose and execute a wall along the US and Mexico border (The Trump wall). Surprisingly after arriving in the US, Latinos, specifically young Mexican American girls, experience culture shock.
Thesis Statement
Globally, people exist in an environment where their daily actions are guided by codes incorporated in various cultures. Gender roles, for instance, are an aspect attached to culture with accruing expectations based on individuals or particular groups based on the beliefs and expectations of a specific society. To better understand the term gender roles, the definition of the term "gender" itself is necessary. Gender is often confused with the term sex. Sex is a biological concept, while gender implores values and characteristics attached to different sexes.
