The oral presentation assignment was beneficial in enhancing my communication skills. Using PowerPoint, one is expected to be very precise when they are presenting issues. Therefore, I was able to practice how to communicate clearly and concisely before an audience. This is an essential skill for thought leaders and potential decision-makers in society. Another critical strength through the oral presentation assignment was getting hands-on experience on how to deliver information. I was able to connect with the audience and present issues using body language, illustrations, and pauses that give the words punch.
As the presenter, I had an opportunity to present myself as a leader. The aim of the presentation was not just presenting information about the medical coding career but persuade the audience to believe my perspective, ideas, and findings of the subject. Other strengths that I exercised during the exercise include storytelling skills, applying humor, ability to write and communicate visually, and enhanced self-awareness. The main challenge during the presentation was articulating issues without biasness. People can easily believe something when it is presented fairly, without any preconceived biasness that not sufficiently supported by data. Emotional management is also an essential part of the presentation. Therefore, being able to control my emotions is sometimes challenging. However, the presentation affirmed that emotional management is something that everyone can learn and attain.
