Differences and Similarities Between Military Aviation and Civilian Aviation
The first successful airplane was invented on 17th December 1903 by the Wright brothers. After the first plane's invention, there was much pressure to create more aircraft for military personnel utilization in conducting their missions. Notably, airplanes' creation was crucial for military workers who participated in World War I and World War II as they fought to defend their countries from air attacks. After World War II, the need to have airplanes for civilians use emerged. These civilian planes would transport passengers, goods, and services across the world. There are numerous differences and similarities between military and civilian aviation that arise from the historical context of the inventions, the responsibilities or uses of these planes, and the benefits of military and civilian aviation.
Military and civilian aviation inventions came at different eras. The first military aviation was composed of military aircraft operated explicitly by army officers, while civilian aviation comprises non-military airplanes for commercial and private transport. According to Jakab (2009), military aviation started around 1909 after the first plane's invention by the Wright brothers in 1903. Shortly after the aircraft was invented, many military people were confident that its use and application in the military mission would bring many benefits. On the other hand, civilian aviation started in the 1920s and 1930s. It increased after the Second World War because many cities and towns had constructed airports.
