Short Paper About History of Media
A cyberbullying case occurred in 2010. It resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl. Some individuals were arrested because they were linked with the case. It showed that cyberbullying might result in the death of an individual who cannot succumb to the unnecessarily unrelenting pressure. However, social networking sites are advantageous to various people because they help them to connect. The essence of this paper is to provide a comparison between the drawbacks and benefits of using social media. It will show that social networking sites need to be used with moderation, whereby parental oversight is imperative. It will show that social networking sites have merits and disadvantages, and parents need to be aware of them when guiding their children.
Phoebe Prince was a 15-year-old girl who committed suicide in 2010. She hung herself on January 14 in her home in South Hadley using a scarf. It increased awareness in public concerning the tragic consequences of cyberbullying. She was an immigrant from Ireland, and the way she died sparked an international campaign addressing the problem. She became an icon who had suffered humiliation, and the situation resulted in six children being charged with the connection to the case (O’Higgins Norman & Connolly, 2011). It was imperative that individuals in the community understood the harmful consequences of cyberbullying and became aware of the defendants.
