Introduction

Poetry is an exciting field that makes use of imagery to provoke emotions about a particular issue. Poets utilized their skills in writing or performing a poem to make us, the audience, relate with the theme of the poem and subsequently draw lessons from it. We have different experiences in getting the main ideas in the poem owing to the style of presentation and how the poet conveys the message to the audience. However, differences in resonating with a poem is determined by its presentation in text or when performed on stage. I had the privilege of watching video performance of the poems The Sky Now Black with Birds and Patricia Smith’s 34 as well as reading them on the text, and my experience was very different for each poem.
