Intervention
Therefore, interventions in place will aim at solving the two key problems of housing and employment opportunities. Research indicates that housing is related to individuals' mental health, and inadequate housing is akin to an additional mental burden to veterans (Newman, 2001). Furthermore, lack of employment is also a stressor that can lead to stress and depression, especially if a person cannot fend for themselves (Batic-Mujanovic et al., 2017). The first step is to access the employment history of the veterans. Such information provides an overview of the skills and abilities that determines one's chances of getting employed.
The program will also keep a database of the skills and experiences required by local businesses. Analysis of such information will enable the program to link veterans with potential employers both locally and beyond the county. The same information will be integrated with data from local real-estate agencies and government housing institutions to link veterans with reasonable housing to allow them integrate back into society smoothly. The second step is to develop partnerships with local businesses to incorporate the hiring of veterans within their policies. Hiring veterans locally is beneficial to both companies and veterans. Veterans do not have to cover long distances going to work, while businesses will have reliable labor sourced locally.
Another critical intervention is to build community-based coalitions that will identify and pool resources to help the veterans.
