Introduction

Dance involves rhythm and patterns of human motion combined with aesthetics and symbolism that are relatable to the performer and the observer (Cohen and Copeland 1).

The YouTube dance video published by CCTV depicts how choreography combines different features and techniques of dance to serve different purposes. Characterization by use of non-verbal gestures, lighting, background music, and props, among other features, enhances communication and drives emotions. The dance achieves specific objectives by telling a story symbolically with actions that are easily relatable to the audience. Historically theatrical dance in China was useful in entertainment to amuse and make them dream about good things in life, such as prosperity and love (Liu 38). Specific objectives to be achieved through the dance choreography incorporate different techniques and styles.

Communication

The dance shows different aspects of traditionalism, the dancers are putting on traditional attires, and each one of them is holding a cultural prop. There is a three-dimensional backdrop set up resembling ancient times. There is an overarching aspect of unity evident from the way the women walk in uniformity and carry out activities together. At the beginning of the choreography, a woman performs a sewing gesture to show the events that initially take place in this community. These are features used to communicate culture and relate to the audience hence passing a message in the dance.
