Reflective Essay

Change is part of human life. Everyone often changes their attitudes about certain situations in their life, but it is useful when the change is for a positive drive. In the novel A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway (2012), Frederic changed his perception about the war to the extent that he ran away. When I was a teenager, I was involved in drug abuse, but I changed my attitude about drug use and am now an ambassador against drug abuse. There are always reasons for the change in perspectives.

Frederic was in the lead front at war during World War I until he was injured and hospitalized. His hospitalization was the beginning of his change in attitude about war. He found out that morale had diminished among the soldiers when he was away, which broke his heart more. He was devastated by the war killing a whole generation that lived then. Initially, Frederic probably saw combat as saving the generation, but it ended up killing it. A soldier should not be forced to fight because it should be a calling, but Frederic was forced back to war after he recovered, which contributed to him changing his attitude (Hemingway, 2012).

The change in attitude that Frederic experienced connected with my situation when I was in University. I engaged in drug abuse, and I saw it as fun. It always felt great being high on cocaine and marijuana.
