Article #1 Johnnie Walker whiskey to be sold in paper bottles. (2020). Retrieved 30 July 2020, from https://www.bbc.com/news/business-53392949

Summary

The article is a business news story by BBC published on 13 July 2020. Diageo, the parent company owning Johnny Walker, announced that it is planning to roll out a new way of packaging their product. From 2021, they will be using paper bottles in place of the glass and plastic bottles ("Johnnie Walker Whiskey to be Sold in Paper Bottles," 2020). Paper bottles are environmentally friendly, according to Diageo, since manufacturing bottles from glass material emit carbon into the environment besides consuming much energy.

Diageo says that the bottles will be made from wood and would be recyclable. Pulpex Company, which produces bottles for Unilever and PepsiCo, will manufacture the bottles ("Johnnie Walker Whiskey to be Sold in Paper Bottles," 2020). The trial is set for spring 2021.

Analysis

It is an excellent idea that Diageo thought of adopting a new way of packaging its product. The environment has suffered much pollution from non-degradable materials that include plastic and glass bottles. The primary blame on environmental pollution has always fallen on huge companies because they use materials that do not decompose in packaging their products. In particular, Drink companies are continuously developing ways to reduce the usage of plastic and glass bottles in their packaging. It is a good thing that Diageo is among those companies on the frontline.
