African American Social Issues and Policy

Social problems are related to issues that affect a particular community, society, or group of persons. Social problems affect how specific populations undertake their day to day activities and how they are viewed or treated by others. One of the social issues that are highly prevalent in the United States OF America (U.S.) is racial discrimination in several sectors and aspects. According to Legewie (380), African Americans have to deal with different discriminations and racial profiling subjected to them in American society. Over the years, one of the main social problems that African Americans have faced is discrimination, which has resulted in them being victims of racial profiling, police brutality, and health disparities, among many others. Despite efforts by individuals and groups to solve this problem, African Americans continue to endure discrimination as one of their main social issues.

Like any other problem, several social change policies can be used to deal with discrimination among African Americans. One of the best social policies to deal with this problem is ensuring that all persons are provided with equal resources and opportunities to ensure that they are empowered and self-reliant (Legewie 413). This is a social policy that should entail five main components: legal rights, political representation, economic resources, critical services, and attitudes and perceptions. By incorporating these components into the social change policy, it will be possible to ensure progress is made towards the reduction of racial discrimination among African Americans.
