*Your Psychology of Color project will be to choose one of the mood paintings/ photos from the Explore section, select a color arrangement, and paint a new version of your image. The Starry Night red
painting is an example. Here are a few tips for selecting color arrangements:
Warm colors: red, yellow, orange- can create an exciting or agitating mood
Cool colors: blue, green, purple- can create a relaxed mood
Complementary or split complementary colors: across from each other on the color wheel- can create some visual tension or excitement
Monochromatic colors: one color plus adding black and adding white to the color- can create a sad or melancholy feel.
The goal is to change the overall MOOD of the image you selected by changing the color. If you need help sketching out the image, use a grid. Draw a grid over the original image and then draw a grid twice as large (or if the picture is large it could be the same size) on your poster board. One tip is to paint the whole poster board first with a light reddish brown color. If you do this before starting your painting, you will get a richer color. You can mix brown by adding the three primary colors together. Water it down some, then paint over the board. You can also wipe away any excess paint with paper towel. You don’t want this brown to be really thick or dark, just like a water color type light coating, just so the board is not stark white.
You can also add layers of paint. Do your first coat, let it dry, do a second coat. If working from a painting, notice how the brushstrokes look. You can control that to make it look a similar way. When you are finished for the day, be sure to wash all of the paint out of your bristles.
*Once your painting is complete, submit a link, jpeg, or another photo file.
