You are required to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of an older hotel…in Cape Town, South Africa . The idea behind reviewing an older hotel is that you are going to be giving recommendations on how you would go about renovating it.

You are required to support your findings for each of the questions with photographic evidence.

Instructions –

With the property that you have chosen, give your ideas and explanations on what you would include in your renovation of the hotel. You need to include the following areas in your renovation:

1. Describe how the external areas/outer envelope of the hotel contribute to the overall theme of the hotel. How effective is the theme that is being portrayed? What elements of the outer envelope would you renovate? To what extent and why? (15 marks )

2. Identify and discuss technologies that have been used in the management of the facility. If no technologies have been used, make recommendations. Does the system that they are currently using need to be upgraded? How would you do this? If no upgrade is required, recommend an alternative that will equally assist the property to meet their technological needs. (15 marks )

3. Describe the environmental and sustainability efforts your property is following? Provide recommendations for improvements (if they already have systems in place) or how to begin implementing sustainability initiatives? (10 marks )

4. If you were given the chance to completely renovate the actual structure of the building, explain in detail how you would go about doing this. Support your thoughts with referenced images for your ideas. (10 marks )

5. For each of the following areas identify the type of lighting used, and where applicable make recommendations for renovating.

i. Public areas ( 10 marks )

ii. Guest rooms (10 marks )
