Tim Hayden was introduced earlier as having an idea for connecting sports fans in a stadium with the same sorts of graphics, statistics, instant replay and other advantages the television viewers had. He had his idea and developed a plan to attempt to see when he thought he was ready to move on the idea.
During a vacation, he met an entrepreneur, Terry Loebel, the founder of Val-Pak. Through discussions with him and later Tim’s parents, Tim decided he was now ready.
- People talk about entrepreneurs depending on luck. Tim only saw Terry Leobel that one time. Their conversation was one of the factors leading Tim to decide to go full-time on Vivid Sky and SkyBOX. Was it luck on Tim’s parts? Was there anything Tim could have done to improve his luck?
- Why would Tim’s employers plan to change business directions make becoming a full-time entrepreneur more attractive?
- Tim felt he needed to go full=time to take the SkyBOX “to the next level.” Can you think of ways he could have continued building up the SkyBOX while sticking with a part-time approach? What would have been the downfalls?
