There will be one HCI question and one Information management question. You must answer BOTH questions in 1 hour and 15 minutes. This is an example of an HCI question.
a) Provide three reasons why conventional approaches to task analysis may not be sufficient to analyze interaction with current generations of computer-based systems.
b) Briefly describe why `mood congruence’ is a significant factor in the design of a successful computer game.
c) `Affective computing’ is build on the idea that the users’ emotions can influence their interaction with a computer system. Briefly explain why initial failure with a computer game might lead to the low expectations that increase the likelihood of future failures.
d) You have been asked to help a software house help in the design of a new version of a computer game. The clients are worried that a significant number of people purchased the earlier version of the game but then quickly abandoned it. Write a brief technique note that explains the difficulties of conducting lab-based tests to explain this apparent problem. Your note must also consider how best to assess the trade-off that exists between finding an optimal level of challenge and yet still provide the user with a sense of control.
