Shafqat suffered from diabetes which caused his death on 15 September 2017. He had been admitted to the hospital for 2 months and the bill issued by the hospital amounted RM25,000.00. Shafqat was survived by 2 wives and an infant son. His estate comprised of a double-story house worth RM500,000.00, takaful benefit of RM250,000.00, Tabung Haji Fund amounting to RM70,000.00 and a terrace house valued RM180,000.00. However, it was discovered that he had transferred the ownership of his terrace house to his second wife in December 2016. Dissatisfied with the situation, his first wife intended to claim the double-story house as a jointly-acquired property.
