Reflecting back to the chapter’s opening case study, consider how important it is to have the right information at the right time to do your job effectively. Supervising a team requires coordinating complex and changeable work between departments. Hadronics had high-quality manufacturing process control software but it was not available to those who needed it, where they needed it. Making it available on an iPad enabled supervisors to see the current status of jobs while on the shop floor, make adjustments to their team’s work, and communicate critical information about jobs with other departments. Hadronics reduced rework by more than 25 percent, and improved on-time delivery by 33 percent. Why did this technology work where other approaches had not? What kind of communication problems are being addressed here?
