Marketing communications (B2C): Create a festive campaign for Marks and Spencer that emphasises their unique Christmas food offerings and gift selection utilising PESO media and in-store experiences to evoke holiday nostalgia

Please note: you are not directly responding to the client brief or following its instructions. Instead, you are proposing a research plan for a project that would address the fictional scenario.i.e., how would you conduct research to answer that brief?
To make sure your proposal is well-organised, use the following headings. The individual word counts are recommended as approximate guidelines to help structure your research proposal. You may adjust the word count slightly for each section depending on the needs of your research, as long as the total word count remains within 2000 words (+/- 5%):
  1. Working title and keywords (50 words)
Write a provisional title for your research project. It should accurately reflect the core theme or topic of your research. Remember, this working title can evolve and be refined as you progress in your research. On a separate line, include up to six keywords that best describe your research focus. These will help us understand the key aspects of your project.
TIP: Final Project students, please ensure that your title truly reflects the brief you have chosen so that the marker can easily identify which one you are addressing.
  2. Introduction (200-250 words)
A brief introduction to the research project, which should include:
          a) What do you propose to do/discover/analyse,
          b) Your interest in it,
          c) Its importance,
          d) Its context and scope.
  3. Research question(s)/Aims and Objectives (200 words)
List 1-3 preliminary research questions or one aim with up to three objectives (what do you hope to discover?). Generally, Dissertation students write research questions, while Final Project students focus on aims and objectives.
TIP: Make your objectives SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely).
  4. Initial Literature Review/Theoretical Framework (450-500 words)
Write a brief discussion of existing literature and materials in your research area. Highlight keytexts that have influenced your work and explain how you plan to build upon or extend them. Have you identified any research gaps? What contribution will your research make to existing knowledge?
    OR
Outline the theoretical framework guiding your project. Discuss the key theories and authors you will use in your analysis and explain their relevance to your study.
  5.  Research plan, methods and techniques (450-500 words)
Outline your research methodology, including the following elements:
    A. Philosophical stance: Discuss the philosophical foundations of your research, such as your ontology and epistemology.
    B. Research design: Explain how you plan to conduct your research and collect data, detailing your sample and sampling techniques.
    C. Methods: Identify the key approaches or methods you will use, such as case studies, interviews, surveys, focus groups, content analysis, etc. Remember, your research questions
should guide your choice of methods. Clarify how these methods will help you address your research question(s) and ensure they align with your theoretical framework.
    D. Sources: Describe the materials you will use and how you plan to access them.
TIP: Remember that this is a module on research methods and this is a piece of summative assessment. Therefore, this section should be the strongest part of your proposal, where you showcase your understanding of research methods. Provide detailed explanations of your methods, sample, and other relevant aspects, and support your writing with appropriate evidence and citations. If necessary, you may exceed the 500-word guideline slightly to ensure you cover everything important in this section.
  6. Research timetable (not included in the word count)
This must be presented in a Gantt Chart format, outlining a plan of activities on a month-by-month or week-by-week basis.
TIP: To enhance readability, place your Gantt Chart on a single landscape page. Ensure that your Gantt Chart is REALISTIC, detailed, and achievable within the given timeframe.
  7. Ethical considerations (200-250 words)
Discuss key ethical issues or dilemmas you are likely to encounter in your research and how you plan to address them. For example, does your research involve human subjects or sensitive topics? How will you ensure informed consent, anonymity, and confidentiality? This section may also include references to methodological issues and ethical considerations
related to the practices and politics of research. Consider your own location, position, and status in relation to the topic. What do YOU, as the researcher, bring to the study? What are the power dynamics between you and the participants, and how will you address these in your research?
TIP: This section is very important, so make sure to back up your writing with relevant evidence and citations. A very short Ethical Considerations section could result in a lower mark, so be sure to cover all the necessary ethical issues in detail.
  8. Conclusion (200-250 words)
What do you expect to achieve from this research? Reiterate the key outcomes. In which contexts might the findings be useful, and who could benefit from them? Additionally, consider what further research might be necessary and acknowledge the limitations that your study will have.
  9. Working bibliography (not included in the word count)
Provide a list of your cited sources, as well as key sources in the field that you expect to consult. This list should be formatted according to the Harvard at Newcastle Referencing Style and is not included in the word count.
