In 2015, a local Apple Store employee in Australia was found to block several minority students from entering their store premises without any legitimate reasons. The whole event was caught on video. As a result, this incident quickly escalated and eventually found its way to the major news outlets and social media. Soon after the incident had happened, a spokesperson from Apple quickly came out and issued the following public statement: “We believe in equality for everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. That applies throughout our company, around the world with no exceptions.” After the issuance of the statement and an apology, it gathered quite positive responses from the general public and therefore quickly marked the ending of this incident. Later, more company statistics and records also surfaced and revealed that it was an isolated incident that had rarely happened in Apple’s past operational history. Based on the case information above, please use principles and concepts from the organizational culture in our class to analyze and explain Apple’ organizational culture. Please clearly integrate relevant course concepts and the case information in your analysis. Next, apply Geert Hofstede’s research and try to use two cultural dimensions to analyze the cultural value beliefs and behavior displayed by Apple as a company.
